Ajax is located at Durham Region, which is considered to be the most developing Ontario region. The business sphere of Ajax is growing very fast. Ajax History Ajax was founded in 1941 with the construction of Defence Industries Limited plant – people from different Canadian areas came here to work at the plant, and the territory of the town grew in size. The plant itself was built to give the job for numerous soldiers of the Canadian Armed Forces that became discharged after the War was finished.
The major part of D.I.L. plant was leased by the University of Toronto for these purposes. The next important date in Ajax history is June 22, 1973. That day the Bill 162 was approved and according to it the Village of Pickering had been merged with the Town of Ajax, as well as the part of the Township of Pickering to form the Durham Region. Ajax's Government After the D.I.L. was closed in 1945 the Ajax industrial sector became extinct. However in 1949 the town became the place for Dowty Aerospace operation. By 1991 the town hosted numerous industrial enterprises such as DuPont, Ajax Textile, Volkswagen Canada, AEG Bayly Engineering, Paintplas and a lot more. In 1980’s the southern part of the town was also enlarged by the building of upscale housing complex near Lake Driveway. In the 70’s – 80’s years of the last century the appearance of Ajax was significantly changed by numerous newly raised buildings.
